Parts Department

(All pics. snapped on 3/02/11 - using an iPhone and Instagram filters)

One of the greatest discoveries I've had the extreme pleasure of making, recently - is that just a few miles up the road from my house, tucked out of sight behind a friend's family business - sit dozens of forgotten, old cars...

I was awestruck, the first time that I went there...

...like I seriously don't remember ever feeling nearly as excited, on any Christmas morning from my childhood.

I've visited the old car cemetery - four separate times now, and have snapped loads of pics. using all of my cameras.

The photos in this post were from the first day.

Because the cars are jammed in, so tightly together...

...I struggled with trying to get any one of 'em - entirely in frame by itself...

...which absolutely drove me flippin' nuts...

...until...

...I realized that being forced to go somewhat more macro...

...actually suited the subjects I was shooting...

...and allowed me to see the details I might otherwise have missed.

I'm not sure if I'll ever grow tired of this place...

...because each time I go there...

...I find so much more to snap.

And here's hoping this concept doesn't wear thin with you guys...

...cuz this is barely the tip of the iceberg.

(Please visit The Big Ugly if you'd like to see and read - about the self-portraits that I staged at this fabulous place...Ta!)

  1. These are awesome. I have some catching up to do with your latest, as I've been away for a while. These images call to mind one of my favorite authors, J.G. Ballard, and his book "Crash", which could be creepy but it's a certain quality I find here. That is a compliment, in case you're wondering.

  2. @Don - I actually have some catching up to do, too! Been outside working in my yard, these last few days...and my poor Little Pretties has definitely suffered neglect.

Thank You for the compliment :) This place IS truly awesome...creepy AND beautiful, all at once...
