Perseverance

(Snapped on 4/01/12 - using an iPhone and Instagram filters)

I could definitely use some of this little guy's strength and determination, right about now...I think he may be my new hero...

Hole in the Wall

(All pics. snapped on 4/01/12 - using an iPhone and Instagram filters)

Yesterday's random photo selection was chosen...well...randomly, *duh* (as pretty much all of 'em are) but when I came across it, as I was scrolling through iPhoto looking for something to post - I was reminded for the first time since I deleted my pics. off of Instagram a few weeks ago, of the cool, old house in which that picture and these were snapped.

I must've driven past this place half a dozen times over the last couple of months, on my recent trips to and from Shepherdstown, WVa. - but since the lot on which it sits has been left to become so terribly overgrown, I never noticed the house until it was almost as if I was kind of looking for it...if that makes any sense.

As soon as I entered through the open front door, it was one of those deals where I find myself feeling utterly perplexed by the apparent sudden departure of the house's inhabitants...so many of their possessions left behind to rot away, right along with the house.

Just like the other times that I've slunk around in abandoned houses that are brimming with personal effects like this one was - one question went through my mind repeatedly, "Why?"

Upon stepping into the last of the four total rooms, in the single story dwelling - part of my question was answered...I guess...

...one of the exterior walls had completely collapsed, leaving an enormous, gaping hole in the side of the aged structure.

Now, whether that happened before or after the people vacated the home, there's really no way of knowing for sure...

...but even if that actually is the reason that the folks who used to live there moved out...

...it still doesn't explain why they left without taking the bulk of their belongings with them when they split.

'Tis truly a mystery, each and every time...mysteries that I suspect - I shall never wind up solving…

I got my first iPhone in January, 2011 - pretty much for the sole purpose of signing up on Instagram...and over the course of the 15 months that I've been taking pictures with my phones (I'm now on my second one - an iPhone 3G) I've come across, and captured countless abandoned chairs.

This particular group was snapped with my old iPhone, during the brief, four month period that I had it - before it kicked the bucket unexpectedly...

Charred Remains

Haven't been here for awhile, so it definitely feels like I've got a lot of catchin' up to do...

Right so first off, my computer is now officially (sort of) fixed. I mean, it ain't running perfectly by any stretch of the imagination - but it will at least let me download pics., once again...that's the good news. The bad news is - that Instagram was recently purchased by Facebook, and for those of you who may not already know this about me - I absolutely detest Facebook...like with a passion. On the flip-side though, I positively adore Instagram (in case you hadn't happened to notice) so...'twas quite the conundrum trying to decide whether to delete my Instagram account in order to keep my beloved square snaps out of the evil, thievin' clutches of FB...or to blindly stick with the status quo, and hope to god that everything stayed the same.

After mulling things over for a day or maybe two, I began deleting the 3200+ pictures that I'd posted on Instagram over the course of the last 14 months or so...I did keep my account active however, that way I'd be able to continue to edit my phone snaps with the bitchin' Instagram filters, knowing that I could always (and hopefully would) still post 'em here on Little Pretties (perhaps with even more regularity than I've been able to manage in the past)...And who knows, maybe my old friends from Instagram will stop by for occasional visits - once I get myself into a steady groove.

...Oh, and speaking of that - probably the worst part about all of this is how much I miss the camaraderie of the likeminded, photography enthusiast friends that I'd made over recent months - on Instagram...Thank You Facebook for ruining one of my most favorite hobbies/pastimes/whatever you wanna call it. You guys take the fun out of everything...

Moving on...

So, now that I've gotten all of that outta the way - let's get back to what we're supposed to do on Little Pretties: look at, and talk about new pics..

The snaps in this entry were taken in Shepherdstown, WVa., in a house that had been damaged by a fire. There was an uber-creepy, super sad pall hanging over me - the whole entire time I was there...

...and although it might sound weird or sick for me to admit this - that's exactly why I liked being there so much…
