Are We There Yet?

(All pics. snapped on 3/05/11 - using an iPhone and Instagram filters)

Nope. Just a couple more entries about old cars, and then we'll be there...(I think)

(Snapped on 3/05/11 - using an iPhone and an Instagram filter)

After the boy (who I mentioned in my last entry) posted pictures of a bunch of old farm trucks on Instagram, I pled with him to tell me where on earth he had found them. And when he said that they were housed in a shed on his family's orchard - I made plans right away, to go shoot them.

(Snapped on 3/05/11 - using an iPhone and an Instagram filter)

Now, one thing I never wanna be accused of - is plagiarizing, and so when I arrived at the shed and beheld those magnificent trucks with my own eyes - I knew that my pictures could not in any way resemble the boy's pics..

Since the photos he'd snapped, were of each truck in its entirety - once again I tried a more up-close and personal approach...

...and once again, I was glad that I had.

A Total Blur

(Snapped on 4/17/11 - using an iPhone and an Instagram filter

I can't even figure out where this day went...I started a new post at 7:30 this morning, but had to put it on hold so I could get my kids fed and off to school.

Next thing I know...it's flippin' midnight. Say wha?!

Looks like I'll be finishin' that post, tomorrow...

Sophomore Effort

(All pics. snapped on 3/06/11 - using an iPhone and Instagram filters)

The pictures seen here, were taken on my second visit to this phenomenal junk car graveyard...

...and unlike the time before, it was a cool and rainy, grey day...

...and - I'd brought someone along to explore the property, and take snaps of the cars with his phone.

My partner in crime, was a 12 year old boy - one of my son's best friends, as well as the son of one of my best friends...

...also the person completely responsible for bringing this place to my attention.

Despite the foul weather, it was a most pleasant outing - and because of the low light and the fact that they were wet - the cars really popped in the pictures that we took.

The boy and I have been dabbling in iPhone/Instagram photography - for roughly the same amount of time, and so for me to even suggest that I am mentoring him, or taking him under my wing or what have you - would be a mighty sophomoric thing to say.

Just because there's a 30 year age gap between us, doesn't mean that I have more ability than he has...

In fact...after watching him in action, and upon reviewing his pics. - I'd bet that he's taught me more, than vice versa...

Parts Department

(All pics. snapped on 3/02/11 - using an iPhone and Instagram filters)

One of the greatest discoveries I've had the extreme pleasure of making, recently - is that just a few miles up the road from my house, tucked out of sight behind a friend's family business - sit dozens of forgotten, old cars...

I was awestruck, the first time that I went there...

...like I seriously don't remember ever feeling nearly as excited, on any Christmas morning from my childhood.

I've visited the old car cemetery - four separate times now, and have snapped loads of pics. using all of my cameras.

The photos in this post were from the first day.

Because the cars are jammed in, so tightly together...

...I struggled with trying to get any one of 'em - entirely in frame by itself...

...which absolutely drove me flippin' nuts...

...until...

...I realized that being forced to go somewhat more macro...

...actually suited the subjects I was shooting...

...and allowed me to see the details I might otherwise have missed.

I'm not sure if I'll ever grow tired of this place...

...because each time I go there...

...I find so much more to snap.

And here's hoping this concept doesn't wear thin with you guys...

...cuz this is barely the tip of the iceberg.

(Please visit The Big Ugly if you'd like to see and read - about the self-portraits that I staged at this fabulous place...Ta!)

Not Gonna Happen

(Snapped on 3/02/11)

I swear I'll do better about posting more tomorrow...cuz I have tons of old car pics. that I wanna talk about. But I havta confess, today was such a purdy day - that I worked in my yard, instead of on my blogs...and now I feel like the car above looks.

Bonne Idee

(Snapped on 4/24/11 - using an iPhone and an Instagram filter)

I took the entire day off from writing - to do Easter with my kids and some friends.

Spending that much time away from my computer, was in hindsight - a very good idea...

AutomoBEEEEEL?

(Snapped in January, 2011 - using a Holga 135)

To say that I'm fond of old cars...and trucks...hell, old vehicles in general...

(Snapped in January, 2011 - using a Holga 135)

...would be something of an understatement.

(Snapped on 2/01/11 - using an iPhone and an Instagram filter)

My affection is intense...as well as indiscriminate, and yet - has (almost) nothing to do with performance or horsepower, or anything under the hood.

(Snapped on 2/09/11 - using an iPhone and an Instagram filter)

Simply put, I like old cars for the way that they look.

(Snapped on 3/06/11 - using an iPhone and an Instagram filter)

It makes no difference to me, if they're rusty or wrecked or totally bunged-up...

(Snapped on 3/13/11 - using an iPhone and an Instagram filter)

...meticulously maintained, or done-over...

(Snapped on 3/18/11 - using an iPhone and an Inastagram filter)

...I'm a sucker for the overall aesthetic of old cars...

(Snapped on 2/19/11 - using a Holga 120)

...well that...and the power they have - to imbue me with nostalgia for a completely different era - sometimes one that was over before I was even born.

(Snapped on 2/26/11 - using an iPhone and an Instagram filter)

I started drooling over old cars, long before I began photographing them...

(Snapped on 3/02/11 - using a Holga 120)

...but my iPhone and my Holga have helped me to take a blase, sorta sidelines fascination - to a much more satisfying level.

(Snapped on 3/20/11 - using an iPhone and two Instagram filters)

And making portraits of such expressive, weathered, even smiling "faces"...

...never fails to put a smile on mine too...

Technical Difficulties

(Snapped on 4/03/11 - using an iPhone and an Instagram filter)

Ok so...I hit a bit of a road-block tonight, and unfortunately it prevented me from finishing the post that I started earlier today. But the photo above should give you a taste of that which is is yet to come...very soon...and in epic proportions (god willing)

Spring Glade

(Snapped on 4/18/11 - using an iPhone and an Instagram filter)

I found this place by accident, the other day - while looking for an abandoned house that a friend told me about.

I never did find the old house...but. I found plenty of other nifty things to snap while I searched...and by the time I left to go home, I was indeed - a happy gal...

Extra, Extra!

(All pics. snapped on 4/20/11 - using an iPhone and a new Instagram filter)

I updated the Instagram app on my phone today, and I was so excited to discover that a brand new filter had been added - woot

I left straight away to go and take some new pics., so I could see how they'd look after testing the "Brannan" effect...

...and I must say, that I really quite like it. The tint is somewhat cool and muted, and brightens the picture while keeping it crisper than most of the other filter options. And I especially dig the thinner-then-usual black border.

X-Pro II and Lomo-fi are still my top two faves, respectively - but newcomer Brannan just might nudge past all those other filters - and stake its claim on third place.
