I drove over to nearby Millwood, Va. yesterday evening - so that I could check out a youth art show that was opening at The Burwell Morgan Mill... 

It was a very nice exhibition, indeed - with many different mediums represented: 

 

- watercolor, acrylic, and oil paintings, mixed media, sculpture, and drawings of all sorts - pen and ink, pencil, pastel...

…but I was especially taken with the work of two young photographers (not surprisingly), and extremely encouraged to learn that darkroom classes are currently offered at their high school.

After I left the art show, I had a hankering' to take some new pics. before it got dark...

…and so I walked a short distance down the road... 

…until I stood face to face with a decrepit, old acquaintance of mine...

…the house seen here in these snaps.

It's been almost three years exactly, since we last hung out...

…back when I staged a mess of self-portraits, on two separate occasions, in practically every room in the crippled house... 

This time however, it wasn't only the old house and me spending time together...

…we were joined by a squatter who's apparently taken up residence in the upstairs middle bedroom...

…which was fine by me...

…once I became certain that the nervous mama vulture wasn't actually going to attack me.

I've gone into a ton of messed up old houses over the years, to take pics….

…but out of all of 'em…

…I still consider this particular work of art…

...to be the undisputed winner of best in show.

"My Favorite" just acquired the most insanely huge collection of worn-out, naked Barbie's - all crammed inside of an old pastel pink trunk (what you see here, is only a small fraction of 'em)…and naturally the first thing that I thought of when I saw them was, "Oh LAWD, do I ever need to make some portraits of those babies!"

Needless to say, this is the first in what I hope to be many different series of Barbie pics….my sincerest apologies in advance, hahaha!

At Long Last We Meet

I initially noticed this old house, ages ago - while driving along the road on which it sits - tucked deep into its overgrown lot…the house's roof and upper floor barely still peeking out above the trees, weeds and vines that by now have almost completely obscured it from view...

Each of the numerous times that I've driven past it, over the last couple of years - I've reminded myself that, "One of these days I'm gonna go there to take pics.!"

…but every time, as soon as the old house was even just a small distance behind me - it became one of those "out of sight, out of mind" deals...

…never crossing my mind again, until the next time that I drove past...

…that is, until this past Sunday.

By midday, my kids were all involved in a variety of different activities - which provided me with a little more time than usual, to go about getting the day's 365 pic..

Although I had literally no idea where I was going to take my pics., I hopped in my car anyway, and just drove…

…knowing that along the way, either something interesting would catch my eye…

...or the proverbial lightbulb would go off, and I'd remember a certain place where I'd always wanted to shoot...

…and I was right...
