Easy to Love

(All pics. snapped on 9/19/12, 9/20/12 & 9/25/12 - using an iPhone and Instagram filters)

Whenever I come across a place like this, I am powerless to resist its magnetic charm...

...and as soon as I'm able...

(perhaps right away...

...maybe a day...

...or a week...

...or a couple of months later)...

...with my cameras in hand...

...or around my neck...

...I let myself fall under its hypnotic spell.

And just as I've done in the past with a handful of humans...

...I then fall fast...

hard...

and madly in love...

...with some of the ruins that I feel so lucky to have found.

The main difference being...

...that where the stupid humans never fail to shatter my willing but weary heart...

...the forsaken buildings that I photograph...

...give themselves over to me...

...completely...

...unconditionally...

...and they never reject the love that I feel for them.

But like a beautiful stranger...

...that one secretly admires from afar...

...their stories, their history - forever remain a mystery...

...it's nearly impossible to ever truly know very much about them at all...how they ended up the way that they did...what went on inside of them...why they were abandoned and left to slowly rot away...

...but I happen to believe that that may be part of their allure...part of what makes them so easy to love...

  3. Well, sometimes the heart gets bitter. Hopefully it also eventually gets better.
